Finally. I justify my satisfaction with this verdict--which is based entirely on viticultural persuasions--with Associate Justice Kennedy's argument that state-on-state discrimination is unconstitutional. That is how, at least, I sleep at night and still consider myself for state's rights.
I wore a suit in celebration
Gary Becker writes an excellent article on why the estate tax should be abolished. The estate tax was originally created to minimize the growth of an aristocracy in America, by limiting the transfer of economic inequality. Becker successfully argues against this point, and others, and makes a case for a federal tax system based solely on a consumption tax, taxing inheritance not as it is received but as it is spent.
